Safety

What do you do after a collision?

  1. Call the police to the scene of the collision. Even if there is no apparent damage, a police report will verify the collision. This will help if hidden damage is discovered later.
  2. If injuries occurred, get medical attention immediately.
Contact your insurance company as soon as possible after the collision. Note that some insurance policies require notice within 24 hours.
  3. Verify if the insurance for the other driver(s) is current.
  4. Diagram the accident. Include details such as streetlights, weather conditions, direction(s) of vehicles, etc. Use two drawings if necessary.
